ASTORIA :: THE BLACK SEEDS :: 04/11/08

The prime example of New Zealand’s good time summer music vibe, The Black Seeds are currently riding high on the back of their latest release, “Solid Ground”, another boundary-crossing fusion of dub, funk, afro-beat and soul, served on a vintage reggae base. If you haven’t heard it yet, you can preview tunes at www.myspace.com/theblackseeds (and buy it from www.netsoundsmusic.com/spacific!)

They spend the summer this side of the world promoting the album – playing some of Europe’s biggest festivals including Roskilde, Lovebox and Summerjam as well as selling out shows in London and Amsterdam. Back for one final blast, they are joined for their last London show of the year by the amazing Ava Leigh (www.myspace.com/avaleigh).

Advance tickets are £14.50 +b/f from Ticketmaster (08700 600 100) – quick link http://tinyurl.com/5c7n6h – or £20 on the door.

12 ACKLAM ROAD :: DAVE DOBBYN :: 28/11/08

Dave’s first show at Islington Academy is almost sold out, so we have put another on sale the next night at the old Neighbourhood venue in Ladbroke Grove.

For all his shows, Dave is joined by seven other musicians and is playing two sets featuring new material and old favourites, with a running time of well over 2 hours. The new songs come from his latest album ‘Anotherland’, produced by the UK’s dub-maestro Adrian Sherwood and Skip ‘Little Axe’ McDonald, which entered the NZ chart at No 2. You can check some of the new tracks out at www.davedobbyn.com.

Tickets are £15 +b/f from www.sanza.co.uk (020 8367 4983)

THE PIONEERS :: WIN TICKETS TO 2ND LONDON SHOW

On October 12th Seethrewmusic will be performing their acclaimed production of The Pioneers at the Pacific Playhouse in Southwark: for the second year running this trio of professional musicians tell the story of the first English settlers to New Zealand with one double bass, two guitars and three voices. They perform to a back drop of stunning New Zealand scenery – images created by award winning UK photographer Barry Lewis, mixed in with digitally reproduced archival images from the UK’s Centre for New Zealand Studies archive.

We have two pairs of tickets to give away – please email kiaora@spacific.net by Monday 6th October to enter the draw. For more info, check either www.myspace.com/3pioneers or www.seethrewmusic.com
