SEBRIGHT ARMS :: BLAIR JOLLANDS + DELANEY DAVIDSON :: 13/09/18

Sadly Delaney Davidson has had to cancel his appearance due to a run of problems. As he says:

“The Bad Luck Man continues his streak of Bad Luck!! It is with great regret that Delaney Davidson is withdrawing from his London Show. Airlines going bankrupt and shows disappearing from under his nose mean he is forced to remain grounded in Switzerland and will not be performing in London at the Sebright Arms on the 13th Sept. He offers his most sincere apologies and hopes to return next year to the UK.”

Please contact your ticket vendor for redunds.

His departure leaves troubadour Blair Jollands holding the fort. Having won the admiration of both David Bowie & Boy George (who released Blair’s band El Hula on his More Protein label), Blair’s music communicates a paradoxical mix of melancholia and optimism that draws the listener in. Often compared vocally to Nick Cave or Rufus Wainwright, Blair has received praise from the likes of NME, Guardian, Uncut, ArtRocker and more. Also known for his film and TV compositions (recent successes include Shackleton, Fortitude & Pride), Blair has just releases “7 Blood“, his new album.

HOXTON SQUARE BAR & KITCHEN :: SOLA ROSA SOUNDSYSTEM :: 27/09/18

Sola Rosa is one of New Zealand’s most evolutionary and enduring musical acts.

With seven full-length albums, four EPs, a handful of hits, countless collaborations and numerous world tours, it’s been a near 20-year labour of love for the man behind the music, Andrew Spraggon. And although it’s punctuated with twists and turns in the form of constant change and innovation, one thing has remained the same – Spraggon’s steadfast commitment to making great albums that seamlessly blend a myriad of genres, from hip-hop and jazz, to neo-soul, latin and funk. Add to that, Spraggon’s simple desire to keep making music that he loves, and you’ve got a winning combo.

The Auckland-based songwriter, producer and musician is constantly working on song craft and has an uncanny knack of finding the perfect vocal accompaniment – think Iva Lamkum on Turn Around, L.A Mitchell on Spinning Top and Kevin Mark Trail on So Fly.

Tickets for his only Northern Hemisphere show this year are £10 + b/f from Music Glue, See Tickets or Ticketweb

SEBRIGHT ARMS :: PITCH BLACK :: 18/10/18

Having pumped their way through New Zealand’s electronic music scene since their inaugural performance at the annual Gathering New Year’s eve festival in 1996, Pitch Black have spent the subsequent years rousing dance floor punters, generating rave reviews, winning awards and gaining thousands of fans across the world.

Hard to box into a single audio ‘genre’, Pitch Black is a combination of musical journeys. Their sound is distinctive; ranging from organic ambient beginnings and layered soundscapes to skanking keyboards, cutting acid riffs and thumping rhythmic grooves, with dub being the glue that holds their sound together. One critic has described them as like “Orbital meets King Tubby, or Rhythm and Sound in Technicolor”.

It is their live show that really makes Pitch Black stand out from the rest of the crowd, both sonically and visually. Their tracks take on an added dynamism and their performances reveal the dialectic behind the band – Paddy wants to do it for the crowd, Michael wants to do it to the crowd. Visually they are in another dimension thanks to Michael’s cutting edge visuals.

They have toured the world relentlessly, playing everywhere from Amsterdam to Zagreb and the streets of Las Vegas to the Australian outback, supporting acts such as Coldcut, Skream, Easy Dub All Stars and System 7 along the way.

There are now only 30 tickets left for this show – they’re available for £12 + b/f from Music Glue, Ticketweb or See Tickets

THE BLACK HEART :: I AM GIANT :: 16/08/18

I Am Giant have dominated mainstream rock radio in New Zealand and wowed some of the biggest festival audiences around the world with their melodic alternative rock anthems. And although they’ve had a phenomenal impact on their home country, I Am Giant’s journey is one that has played out on a global scale, with all the sweat, guitar fuzz, and onstage mayhem you could hope for in a rock and roll story.

Since releasing their first EP ‘City Limits / Neon Sunrise’ in 2010, I Am Giant have taken their music through Australia, Asia, the UK, and Europe. They have headlined festivals in Poland alongside the likes of Bring Me The Horizon and Limp Bizkit, rocked the Viper Room in Los Angeles, and shared stages in Singapore with the Stone Temple Pilots and Slash. That’s all without mentioning Australia, where they’ve toured extensively and rocked the Big Day Out in Sydney twice. There’s also their epic nights in Vietnam and Bali, and the love shown to them by the likes of Zane Lowe and Kerrang! magazine in the UK.

However, all good things must come to an end, and this is probably the final tour by the band for the foreseeable future.

Support will be Temples on Mars, the band formerly known as Agent.

SEBRIGHT ARMS :: BLAIR JOLLANDS + DELANEY DAVIDSON :: 13/09/18

Following his sold out show in May at Servant Jazz Quarters, Delaney Davidson has decided to come back in September and team up with Blair Jollands for a double bill of alternative Americana.

Having won the admiration of both David Bowie & Boy George (who released Blair’s band El Hula on his More Protein label), Blair Jollands’s music communicates a paradoxical mix of melancholia and optimism that draws the listener in. Often compared vocally to Nick Cave or Rufus Wainwright, Blair has received praise from the likes of NME, Guardian, Uncut, ArtRocker and more. Also known for his film and TV compositions (recent successes include Shackleton, Fortitude & Pride), Blair releases “7 Blood“, his new album, this August.

Part man, part wheel, Delaney Davidson is part wandering minstrel, part traveling salesman. One hand holds a small brown suitcase; the other his guitar. He’s just finished touring Europe with Marlon Williams, and released a brand new album, “Shining Day” on Glass Records Redux.

BUSH HALL :: MODERN MAORI QUARTET :: 29/07/18

The marvellous Modern Maori Quartet will be back in London this summer, en route to another residency at Edinburgh Festival, and so that all the family can take part, this time round they'll be playing a matinee show, with doors at 3pm and a stage time of 4pm.

A good looking, suave contemporary Māori showband in the vein of forebears such as the Hi-Marks and Māori Volcanics, MMQ’s accomplished artists hail from different corners of Aotearoa to bring the concept of a “Māori Ratpack” into the present, weaving acting and musical abilities together to croon their spin on modern and classic numbers.

Their live shows are parties like no other, with a mix of off-beat comedy, stage routines, unique takes on showband hits as well as pop music, and displays of distinctively Māori song and dance. With hearty voices in epic harmony, they share Māori traditions, aroha and tell Kiwi stories through waiata with tongue-in-cheek Māori humour, charm and charisma.

At the core of it all, MMQ are a classy celebration of the entertainment legends of Māoridom; hearty Māori entertainment that will warm your heart and make you cry with laughter.

SERVANT JAZZ QUARTERS :: DELANEY DAVIDSON :: 24/05/18

We're stoked that our first show of the year should be by the mischevious maverick, Delaney Davidson.

Delaney forged his identity over a decade ago as a figure on the European tour circuit, having been a part of the Voodoo Rhythm Family of Switzerland since 2003. His seminal influence and work with Marlon Williams on their “Sad But True” series as well as his visionary production on Tami Neilson’s acclaimed albums “Dynamite” and “Don’t Be Afraid” have also earned him great praise from the media and huge respect amongst his peers.

Initially inspired by the songs of Hank Williams and the Birthday Party, and the performance styles of distilled Johnny Cash and dead-pan Buster Keaton, Delaney synthesizes this into his own persona. A wry sense of humour, some theatre of unease, and a voice classed as “not conventionally beautiful” all combine to breathe life and space into the niche he has carved out for himself, winning him critical acclaim across the world for his original take on things.

The guitar and harmonica of his simple live show have become his trademark, a small battered suitcase as his props table for the magic show, looping sounds over each other to achieve the full drive of a juke band. Howlin Wolf meets Suicide. Reverbed vocals and the slap back beats he builds with his Ghost Orchestra capture the sound of Chicago’s Chess Records.

Generally dealing with the darker side of things, Davidson’s lyrical content ranges from classic murder ballads to songs with a deeper insight into the human condition and a sympathy and acceptance of the quirks of life and human foibles. Combining the older style of beerhall musician and the traditions of pantomime and audience involvement his live show is renowned for its sublime dance competitions and bawdy sing-alongs.

Support on the night will be Michael J Sheehy.

SERVANT JAZZ QUARTERS :: NOMAD :: 05/06/18

nomad’s signature lush vocal layers, heady harmonies and infectious indie-pop hooks have been winning over unsuspecting live audiences back home for some time now, and this May they venture overseas for the first time to perform at two festivals in Germany and this one off show in London.

Aasha Mallard, Will McGillivray and Cullen Kiesanowski formed nomad at school, initially exploring barbershop style singing, but eventually adding instruments to perform as a band where their very different musical tastes collide to shape their alt-pop sound. They made their mark on the NZ charts with the undeniably catchy singles ‘Oh My My’ and ‘Love Will Call’, leading to support slots for The Vamps and Hanson, headline tours and performances at the country’s main festivals.

BUSH HALL :: MODERN MAORI QUARTET :: 29/07/18

We're delighted that the marvellous Modern Maori Quartet will be back in London this summer, en route to another residency at Edinburgh Festival. Their show last year was an absolute delight, and so that all the family can take part, this time round they'll be playing a matinee show, with doors at 3pm and a stage time of 4pm.

Tickets for adults are £18 + b/f or for under 18s are £5 + b/f from Music Glue, Ticketweb or See Tickets.

From: 3pm

HOXTON SQUARE BAR & KITCHEN :: SOLA ROSA SOUNDSYSTEM :: 27/07/17

We’re very happy to announce the return of one of Kiwi music’s most evolutionary and enduring acts, Sola Rosa.

Now, the Auckland-based music-maker is poised to unveil the next steps in the Sola Rosa journey. It has always been Spraggon’s modus operandi to delve further into new musical territories and that’s exactly what he’s still doing. Add to that, Spraggon’s simple desire to keep making music that he loves, and you’ve got a winning combo.

The fist single was the stonking beat-heavy track ‘So Fly’ featuring British singer Kevin Mark Trail, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s working with The Streets, and who is an intergral part of the Sola Rosa Soundsytem. The next was the soulful ‘Back to You‘ featuring Noah Slee on vocals and after that …. is yet to be announced!

Tickets are £8 + b/f from Music Glue

From: 8pm
At: 2-4 Hoxton Square, London N1 6NU
Nearest Tube: Old Street or Shoreditch High Street

O2 FORUM KENTISH TOWN :: SHAPESHIFTER NZ :: 04/08/17

Over the last 18 years Shapeshifter have created their very own brand of heavy soul – a stadium-sized sound which adds layers of drum & bass, jazz, funk, rock and electronica to solid bass culture foundations, capable of morphing from rolling drum & bass to pummeling guitar-driven jams to horizon-shifting electronic soundscapes. This genre-defying amalgamation of influences continues to draw from new source material and inspiration as Shapeshifter evolves, motivating dance floors worldwide and delivering audiences to the bleeding edge of musical possibility.

As at home in an amped club environment as they are playing to packed festival fields, Shapeshifter is a truly adaptable unit. The five-strong lineup of PDigsss, Sam Trevethick, Dan McGruer, Nick Robinson and Darren Mathiassen have individually called Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Kingscliff, Berlin, Queenstown and, first and foremost, their original Christchurch stomping ground home, yet a chemistry refined over 18 years of playing together means they lock back into formation whenever they regroup.

Joining them on the night will be The Nextmen and DJ Spragga

From: 7pm

O2 FORUM KENTISH TOWN :: SHAPESHIFTER NZ :: 04/08/17

Tickets are £20 + b/f from Ticketweb, See Tickets, Gigantic or Stargreen.

From: 7pm
At: 9-17 Highgate Road, London NW5 1JY
Nearest Tube: Kentish Town

HOXTON SQUARE BAR & KITCHEN :: SOLA ROSA SOUNDSYSTEM :: 27/07/17

We’re very happy to announce the return of one of Kiwi music’s most evolutionary and enduring acts, Sola Rosa.
