CARGO :: WAITANGI DAY :: 05/02/06
Our Waitangi Day event this year will feature an array of locally based expat talent: live dancehall and hip hop from The Eskimo Squad, soulful Pacific roots from singer songwriter Jayson Norris and a performance of spoken word by Sistar Spacific. Also the London Maori club, Ngati Ranana, will be performing at around 6pm.
On DJ duty willl be the fabulously funky and eclectic Ms Mill, former Matterhorn resident DJ Vee plus special guests. And as usual, the Cargo Street Kitchen will be cooking up Kiwi specials – green lipped mussels, lamb burgers, kumara chips, pavlovas etc
Doors: 4pm til 12am
Entrance: £5 before 6pm or in advance from Flat White or Ticketweb / £7 after.

Hip hop connoisseur Vee will be dropping mammoth beats next month. Formerly Friday night resident at The Matterhorn in Wellington alongside DJ Mu from Fat Freddy’s Drop, Vee now runs the Elephant record label and distribution company, providing Europe’s record stores with the funkiest beats imaginable.

New Zealand’s self proclaimed ambassador to Ireland makes a welcome return to these shores to celebrate the release of his latest mix CD. Anyone who had the pleasure of seeing/hearing him at Scribe’s shows in London will know that Mr Dee is a consummate entertainer, as happy rapping as he is mixing and scratching. One for all beat heads and hip hop lovers.

COCKTAIL OF THE MONTH :: PHENETINI
Ingredients: 50 ml 42 Below Vodka, 20 ml Violet sirop, 1 small piece of fresh ginger, 1 small piece of lemongrass, 1 bar spoon of caster sugar or a dash of gomme.
Glass: Chilled martini glass.
Method: Muddle the fresh ginger, shredded lemongrass and sugar, add ice, vodka and violet sirop, shake and strain into glass.
Garnish: 3 paper thin lemongrass shreds
