CARGO :: NEW TELEPATHICS :: WEBSITE LAUNCH PARTY

To celebrate the launch of both the Spacific website, and the debut album by New Telepathics, we are returning to the venue where the Spacific project began on August 23rd 2001.

Doubtless very few of you have heard of New Telepathics, but hopefully some of you will have heard of the people behind it: Darryn Harkness, Sandy Mill and Julian Reid. Darryn and Sandy used to be in Spacesuit back in ’97, while Darryn and Julian used to be in Braintree. These days, Darryn plays guitar for the rock band Serafin, while Sandy sings for Gary Numan, Placebo, Basement Jaxx, Subware, Pitch Black and East West Connection.

History lessons aside, they have come together to create a marvelous melting pot of afro-beat, funk, soul, jazz and a little slice of house with their 8 piece band. We would dearly love your support to make their debut/launch a success and so are offering anyone whose name is on the mailing list £2 off the entry price. All you will need to do is give the email address to which this newsletter goes to to the person on the door, and they will give you a special pass.

DJs will be Miss Mill, Bill Scott and the Spacific All Stars

Entry: £5 on the door or £3 with valid email address

Doors open at 8pm and close at 1am. The band go onstage at 10pm.
Cargo is at Kingsland Viaduct, 83 Rivington Street, Shoreditch, London EC2A 3AY- the nearest tubes are Old St or Liverpool St and it’s website is www.cargo-london.com

NEIGHBOURHOOD :: PITCH BLACK with special guest SANDY MILL :: 28/10/04

We have been cheekily describing them to the UK press as like “King Tubby meets Richie Hawtin down under” but that doesn’t really do them justice. Pioneers of the electronic music scene, veterans of the festival circuit and audio-visual demons, Pitch Black need little introduction. They return to the UK with a brand new album, “Ape to Angel”, which is an absolute corker – touches of breakbeat, house, ambient and lots of dub (of course!) all wrapped in that trademark Pitch Black sound. Sandy Mill, who sings on 2 tracks on the album, will be performing with them on the night.

DJs will be Reuben Sutherland (Ebb) and Operxist (Berlin).

Tickets are £8 in advance, or £10 on the door (or £5 after midnight)
Advance tickets can be bought from Ticketweb (08700 600 100) ~
http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=uk&query=detail&event=106755

DRINKS SPECIAL: Selected beers will be £2.50 from 8pm to 10pm
42 Below cocktails will be £5 all night
42 Below shots will be £2 all night

Doors swing open at 8pm and slam shut at 2am.
Neighbourhood is at 12 Acklam Road, London W10 5QZ ~ the nearest tubes are Ladbroke Grove or Westbourne Park and it’s website is www.neighbourhoodclub.net.

APOLOGIES
Firstly many apologies for the on going saga of our website. For most of July it was completely out of action due to a server problem and even though it is now up again, we are still far from putting all the content in. We hope to go “live” as soon as possible but it is proving much more time consuming than originally anticipated.
Apologies especially due to anyone who asked to unsubscribe from the mailing list after the last newsletter, and had their mail bounce back – it won’t happen this time!
Finally there will be no Spacific this month, as Atlantic Records and The Streets have taken the dates we wanted at Neighbourhood.

NEIGHBOURHOOD :: FAT FREDDY’S DROP :: 26/05/04
The first date of our new residency at Neighbourhood is already shaping up to be a monster night – tickets have been selling like fresh Ponsonby pies, with only a few hundred left.
But that should be no surprise, since it is Fat Freddy’s only full-length show in London this Spring. The band will go on stage at 10pm, after a DJ set from Vee (Matterhorn) and hopefully will finish in time to let Charlie Kartel (LOOP) spin a few choice tunes (although we have told them they can play for as long as they like so …..).

Tickets are £7.50 in advance or £10 on the door.
Advance tickets can be bought from Ticketweb (08700 600 100) ~ http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?region=uk&query=detail&event=93476
Doors swing open at 8pm and slam shut at 2.30am.
Neighbourhood is at 12 Acklam Road, London W10 5QZ ~ the nearest tubes are Ladbroke Grove or Westbourne Park and it’s website is www.neighbourhoodclub.net.

PS. On the night there will be a stall in one of the booths behind the bar on the ground floor, selling New Zealand music CDs and Fat Freddy’s T-shirts etc.

WEBSITE UPDATE
We are finally updating our website, after a winter of serious neglect. Come May 1st, there will be an all singing, all dancing new site featuring information on not just Spacific events but all the various nights going on in London, the rest of England and Europe. We will also publish photos and features on New Zealand bands, record labels, DJs, artists, designers and anything else of note.
All of this will take a lot of work and time, and we would love any help we can get. If you would like to be involved or find out more, please email us at kiaora@spacific.net.
