12 ACKLAM ROAD :: HOLLIE SMITH :: 14/04/08

Tickets are flying out the door for Hollie’s London debut, and not surprisingly, given that she is one of the finest talents to come out of Aotearoa in a long time. Her debut album, “Long Player” has sold over 30,000 copies so far, and won her awards, as well as persuading legendary US A&R man, Bruce Lundvall to sign her to his Manhattan Records division of Blue Note.

A last minute change to the schedule sees the jazz star of the moment, Neil Cowley, presently of the Neil Cowley Trio and formerly in Brand New Heavies and Zero 7, providing warm up vibes from the DJ booth.

For more info on Hollie, check out www.myspace.com/holliesmithmusic or www.holliesmith.co.nz.

Tickets are £12 +b/f in advance from Ticketweb.co.uk (08700 600 100) or tinyurl.com/yqbtd7
Door price will be £15.

From: 7pm til 11.30pm
Venue: 12 Acklam Road, W10 5QZ

CLOCKWORK :: MINUIT :: 29/05/08

The pesky breakbeat banditos fly back to Europe for a whirlwind tour to launch their Northern Hemisphere debut, “I went to this party and there were 88 Guards with Guns”, which features the finest tracks from their two original albums. Having beaten the Pet Shop Boys to win a Pixel Award for Best Music Website, and then won a similar gong at SXSW in Texas recently, the Minuit kids are kinda hoping their album will perform in a similar manner. Given the airplay they have been getting from Annie Mac and Annie Nightingale on Radio One, Jay Cunning on KISS and Rennie Pilgrem on Galaxy, they should hopefully be pleasantly surprised.

With support from Nelson’s finest, DJ FunknSloCuts and Demus. Please note that Clockwork is a very small venue, so you will need to move fast if you want to see them.

Tickets: £8 +b/f from Ticketweb (08700 600 100) or £12 on the door.

From: 7.30pm til 1am
At: 96-98 Pentonville Road, N1 9JB
Nearest tubes: Kings Cross or Angel
Venue website: www.clockworkbar.co.uk

THE FORUM :: SCRIBE :: 13/06/08

The “Crusader” returns to London for his only UK appearance this year. Assisted by DJ D Form, Scribe will be joined on stage by the awesome Tyra Hammond of Opensouls and Tornados fame. Also DJing will be Dublin legend, Mikki Dee, and LOOP’s Adi Dick.

Tickets: £12 +b/f from Ticketmaster.co.uk ((0844 847 2405) or tinyurl.com/24pfzn

From 7.30pm til 1am
At: 9-17 Highgate Road, London, NW5 1JY
Nearest tube: Kentish Town

ELECTRIC BALLROOM :: THE BLACK SEEDS :: 25/06/08

Apologies but we discovered too late on that the Ticketmaster link we sent in last month’s emailout meant you could end up paying more money for your Black Seeds tickets than if you went to Ticketweb for example. We are dedicated to keeping ticket prices as low as they can be, especially in these crazy times.

Anyways, the good news is that the Seeds are coming back, and with a new album too. Their fourth release is scheduled to hit the streets early August, but hopefully there will be some sneaky previews available at this gig.

Tickets: £13.50 + b/f from Ticketweb.co.uk (08700 600 100)

Where: Electric Ballroom, 184 Camden High Street, NW1 8QP
Nearest tubes: Camden Town
Venue website: www.electric-ballroom.co.uk/
